Fraction of larvae which return to habitat, FR
FR is the fraction of competent larvae that are produced and delivered to the habitat anywhere along the coast after a time PLD (days). Plots are given as a function of season of release, release depth, and PLD. All larvae have fixed depths. All habitat points are shown.

Ladv as arrows, and Ldiff as circles
Ladv is the mean distance larvae are moved downstream from their parents. The tail of the arrow is the release point of the larvae, the head is the mean location where the sucessful larvae are after dispersal. Ldiff is the standard deviation of that distance for all larvae released at a point. It is shown as a circle arround the head of the arrow. Plots are given as a function of season of release, release depth, and PLD. All larvae have fixed depths. Only some habitat points are shown for legibility.

ln(RC)=Ladv2/(2*Ldiff2)-ln(FR)
ln(RC) from equation 3 of the text. This is the rate of production of larvae which will survive PLD needed to allow persistence of an introduced species where it is introduced, in the limit of no alongshore variability in dispersal statistics. All habitat points are shown.

Difference in fraction returned for larvae fixed to a depth of 1m or 20m. Red indicates more larvae released at 1m are returned to habitat. This usually is the case for downwelling regions. Blue indcates more larvae released at 20m are returned to habitat. This usually indicates upwelling. Figures are given for different seasons. Only some habitat points are shown for legibility.
